Helping Babies Breathe Training of pre-service Nursing and Midwifery Students in Uganda: Assessment of Feasibility, Acquisition, and Retention of Knowledge and Skills
Joshua Epuitai

Introduction

Globally, 2.3 million neonatal deaths occur annually, with birth asphyxia being a leading cause. The Helping Babies Breathe (HBB) program has proven effective in reducing neonatal mortality among in-service healthcare providers, but it is not integrated into pre-service nursing and midwifery training. Given that students in Uganda often conduct unsupervised deliveries due to staff shortages, equipping them with neonatal resuscitation skills is critical. This project seeks to assess the feasibility, knowledge acquisition, and retention of HBB training among pre-service students in Uganda.
